Chapters 3 and 4:
The more I learn about how gullable the people are, the more I think they remind me of children and their belief in Santa Clause, because they're innocent and don't think about how controlled they are and don't test authority.
Question:
Don't you think it's suspicious that the people don't challenge the government or wonder why they're so controlled?
Chapters 5 and 6:
The plot is starting to remind me of The Giver because he knows things nobody else knows and he is starting to rebel and is possibly going to try to overthrow the system.
Question:
Do you think that Winston will successfully overthrow the government or get other Oceania residents to rebel?
Response to Chapters 3-4 question:
ReplyDeleteI feel like it's not so much suspicious as it is against basic human principles. I feel like if a group of people, especially on a large scale such as an entire society, was oppressed by a opressive government such as the Inner Party of Oceania, either the citizens themselves or an outside influence would fight back and try to make things right. For example, when Hitler was in power of Nazi controlled Germany, the citizens of the country could do little to help prevent the atrousities that were occuring in their country. However, outside super powers such as the United States and Britain stepped in to intervene. I believe that if a country ever turned into a "Oceania", the rest of the world would do the same.
I don't think it's suspicious that people don't rebel, because the government has controlled so much of the people's lives, they don't even think for themselves.
